Magic! Intrigue! Betrayal! Oh My! I really loved this book, the only downfall of this book is that the fact that it is not long enough. The length is only 142 pages long. I just couldn’t get enough. The amount of world building, fleshed out characters done in so little pages was astounding. Khanani has such a turn of phrase. From the first page to the last Khanani draws you into the world and tosses you out craving more.

The main character is a person of color which is a nice change. Hitomi is orphaned thief, who has the affinity for magic. Magic that she hasn’t shared with anyone. Hitomi is strong, quick thinking under pressure. She is also very igneous when getting out of issues. She is a BAMF character, but has her insecurities and flaws. I love Hitomi. I’m addicted to strong female characters. I also adore Ghost and Val. I can’t wait to see their story evolve and how it ties in with hers. The end was unexpected, and caused me heartache.

Can I have my heart back? This storyline was one intense moment after another. Each character holds their own and provide either a kick start to Hitomi or background. But they eventually grow into their own.

This book rocked my ship and dashed to the rocks below. Khanani is an awesome storyteller and can’t wait to get this in physical form. 5 stars. All the stars. Go Forth my babies and obtain this book.
